The methods to build time resistant architectural structures using blends of mineral has been known since roman times. But new cement or concrete formulations still need to be tested in order to be developed for more and more challenging applications (like the construction of pipes for deep offshore oil or gas extraction) or to decrease their cost (for instance through the insertion of fly ashes, vegetals or different types of wastes).
Isothermal microcalorimetry focuses on cement or plaster setting kinetics and scheme, while thermogravimetry and coupled techniques focus more on compositional analyses.

Moreover, high temperature calorimetry allow reaching valuable data for the design of baking furnaces.
